Course Description

So, you’re an overworked CPA, CFO, HR Director or other “C” level executive and you are a member of the retirement plan investment committee… which means you are also an ERISA trustee. Few ERISA trustees signed up for this area of responsibility, and few have the training or time to become experts in the complex world of plan governance best practices. This lack of experience represents a risk to the plan sponsor, the participants and the trustees as well.

This course will help ERISA trustees to save time, reduce their personal risk, and fulfill their duties of care. A governance process will be presented which meets each of a trustee’s duties of care under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the 6 central duties of care of an ERISA trustee: 1. Duty of Loyalty 2. Duty to Incur Reasonable Expenses 3. Duty of Prudence (Monitoring Agents’ Activities) 4. Duty to Diversify 5. Duty to Evaluate Risk 6. Duty to Follow Plan Terms

  • Establish a framework for the development and curation of a governance process that demonstrates the plan trustees have acted with care, skill, prudence, and diligence.

About Our Presenter

Anodos logo
Anodos helps trustees (ERISA, Individual, and Endowment) save time, reduce their personal risk, and fulfill their fiduciary duties. We do this by helping the trustee conduct audits of the money managers to whom investment duties have been delegated. We help our clients answer the question "Are the investment managers and consultants as good as they claim to be?" Fiduciaries have an affirmative duty to provide ongoing and independent oversight of the money managers. What makes us unique is that we do not manage money or sell insurance. Doing fiduciary audits, benchmarking studies, and performance attribution is all we do.
