Course Description

On September 27th, the New York Times broke the story about President Donald Trump’s taxes. The gist of the story, or at least the piece that made the headlines, was how the President’s businesses were losing money and how this showed he was not the successful businessman he claimed to be.

During this special program, attorneys Eric Green, Jason Freeman, and Daniel Mayo will discuss what we know about the President’s tax returns, what we do not know, and how that should impact the information being reported.

This session will discuss the tax issues raised, what the rules are, and why the reporting by the New York Times may or may not tell us the whole story.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize how real estate investments can and cannot shield other income from taxation

  • Identify issues with loss carrybacks and carryforwards

  • Define the tax implications for real estate deductions for business vs. personal use
