The life settlement market has never been stronger and institutional investors that purchase life insurance policies on the secondary market are trying to bypass CPAs and other fiduciaries so that they can increase their internal rate of return (IRR) and maximize profit. They make the most money when the policy owner/seller approaches them direct without representation. The worst-case scenario for a buyer is when the CPA gets involved and engages the services of a life settlement broker that has a fiduciary duty to serve the client’s best interest.
