Course Description

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act’s enactment of Section 67(g) disallow miscellaneous itemized deductions for tax years 2018-2025. Section 67(g) affects estates and trusts as well as individuals. This program will review the applicable sections of the Internal Revenue Code to determine what expenses are still deductible and what ones are not deductible for the applicable tax years. In addition, we will review Notice 2018-61 and conduct a detailed examination of the newly issued Section 67(g) proposed regulations, including examples of how the proposed regulations affect excess deductions on the termination of an estate or trust and the income tax reporting requirements for estates, trusts, and its beneficiaries. Finally, we will discuss some surprising results that simple trusts may encounter due to the enactment of Section 67(g).
