In this practical webinar, you will learn about employee classification and the use of independent contractors in the age of AB5. Legislation and court rulings have reshaped California's worker classification landscape and in an attempt to make compliance easier for employers. However, have these legal challenges, and subsequent legislation clarify the rules or make them more complicated?

Learning Objectives:


  • Identify the nuts and bolts of the ABC test under AB5

  • Recognize when a worker may meet an exemption under AB5 or AB2257

  • Define the impact of Proposition 22 on businesses

  • Give examples of the impact of the recent Department of Labor rule for classifying independent contractors under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

  • Determine an action plan to assess your business's compliance with AB5 and mitigate any risk

Additionally, she is involved in YPO and has spoken for Vistage, Entrepreneurs' Organization, the Beverly Hills Bar Association, the Irvine Chamber of Commerce, the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce, the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, and Professionals in Human Resources Association (PIHRA).

Cynthia has recently been named to the National Small Business Association (NSBA) Leadership Council, joining other small business advocates to tackle the many critical issues facing small businesses and promote their interests to policymakers in Washington, D.C.

Before starting her practice, Cynthia worked for Krutcik & Georggin, a boutique employment law firm from 2002-2010. From 2010-2014, Cynthia litigated for two law firms, gaining extensive legal experience. In addition, Cynthia obtained her California Real Estate Salesperson's license in 2007 and received her California Broker's License in 2020.

When Cynthia is not mentoring entrepreneurs and defending business owners in court, she works out at CrossFit and spends quality time with her family.
