Course Description

Established under the CARES Act, the Employee Retention Credit (ERC), was designed to reward employers for keeping their employees employed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. This session will go through the main paths to successfully claiming the ERC including the decline in gross receipts path, the government shutdown path, and the recovery startup path.

We will uncover how the determine if your client’s businesses qualify for the credit, highlight the credit’s interaction with other COVID-19 programs like the PPP Loan Forgiveness plan, and review some of the more nuanced but very important rules such as aggregation, related individual, large employer, and R&D.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the basic rules of the Employee Retention Credit

  • Describe the often confusing but rewarding government shutdown path of the ERC

  • Identify and answer questions associated with qualifying the ERC for both large and small employers
