Course Description

In this webinar, Peter Haukebo, Esq. and Rebecca Sheppard, Esq., Directors at Frost Law, will break-down the Employee Retention Credit ("ERC") into 3 easy to digest parts.

First, they will cover who are the eligible employers, addressing the 3 methods of qualification for the credit: A significant decline in gross receipts; a full or partial suspension due to a governmental order limiting commerce, travel, or group meetings; and an employer's status as a recovery startup business.

Next, they will discuss what counts as a qualified wage for the purpose of computing the ERC, addressing issues such as the interaction with the Paycheck Protection Program ("PPP") and other pandemic-era programs and special issues with full-time employee counts.

Finally, they address the "catch." It all sounds so good to be true, so there must be some special issues to work through, right?

Rebecca and Peter will address the more complex issues associated with the ERC such as controlled groups, dealing with owner-employees, the assessment and refund statutes of limitations, and other issues that tax professionals need to consider as they evaluate their client's eligibility for the ERC.

Learning Objectives:

  • List the criteria for eligible employers for the ERC

  • Identify what counts as a qualified wage for the purpose of computing the ERC

  • Give examples of special issues surrounding the ERC

Gassman crotty den

Our firm was formed in 1987 with one lawyer and a shared secretary and receptionist to provide representation to professionals, business owners and retirees in their estate and related tax and personal planning, business and corporate needs.

Since then we have grown to 6 lawyers and over 20 staff, which we have found over the past two decades to be the best size for us. We are very proud of our team, our systems, and our dedication to providing the best and most appropriate legal services for all clients, whether big or small. Our lawyers meet together almost every morning to discuss and work together on cases, strategies and practice improvement projects in order to work the most efficiently and effectively for our clients. We like what we do and enjoy working together.
