Course Description

This course will focus on identifying and clearing up some common misconceptions about estate planning (i.e., estate planning is only for the elderly and/or the wealthy; "I just need a simple will"; etc.). It will discuss three main aspects of estate planning (life plan, transfer plan, and family plan), including aspects that are often overlooked, such as planning for digital assets and reducing conflict. Finally, it will take listeners through the imaginary life of John and Sally Smith and describe different planning needs that may arise as their circumstances change.

Attendees will learn:

  1. How to effectively bring up the need for estate planning with their clients.

  2. How to address common misconceptions about estate planning.

  3. How to use their knowledge of a client's situation and/or changes in circumstances to identify important planning opportunities, thus better fulfilling each client's needs, increasing client satisfaction, and sometimes generating additional revenue.
