There may be an expectation that when you reach that senior manager level that you will magically have all of the right skills and knowledge to become a partner in a firm. The problem tends to be that you have spent a lot of time growing technical skills and perhaps business development prowess, but knowing how the firm operates is a whole other issue. This session will cover new tools and resources available to coach an emerging partner in understanding how a firm makes money and know the questions they need to ask in order to properly evaluate the partner decision and the practice itself.
Jason is a Senior Technical Manager on the Firm Services team at the AICPA. He leads the G400 initiative, oversees development of succession and emerging partner resources for PCPS as well as liaisons with PCPS networking groups. Prior to joining the AICPA in 2017, Jason worked in public accounting for 14 years, five of which were as an owner in a small boutique firm in Albuquerque, NM. He provided tax, accounting and consulting advice to individuals and closely-held businesses, with a focus on professional services, medical and veterinary practices, individual taxation and business start-ups. Prior to joining the AICPA team, Jason was very active in various AICPA committees, including on serving on the PCPS Executive Committee for three years, a year on AICPA Governing Council and two years on the AICPA Young CPA Leadership Team. He has spoken at a number of conferences including AICPA Practitioners/Tech+, EDGE and Tax Strategies for High Income Individual, QuickBooks Connect and Ensuring Success. Jason is a board member of New Mexico Health Connections and the President of Alta Mira of New Mexico. Jason has served as President of the Active 20-30 Club of Albuquerque and National President of Active 20-30 Club US & Canada in the past. In 2011, Jason was honored as one of New Mexico's "40 under Forty" by the New Mexico Business Weekly. In 2015 and 2016, he was named to CPA Practice Advisor’s 40 Under 40. Outside of the office, Jason enjoys spending time with his wife, Tina, his sons, Levi and Micah, and their dogs. His hobbies include travelling, acrylic painting and watching football as an avid Seattle Seahawks fan.
