Course Description

Can QuickBooks (or Enterprise) desktop software comfortably handle the intricacies of job-cost accounting for the wide variety of construction types that you’ll encounter in the construction industry? Can it flex and scale to span the needs and sizes of both small and moderately large contracting and construction companies?

Absolutely!

Join Diane Gilson (20+ year QuickBooks-construction-accounting consultant, registered CPA, multi-certified QuickBooks Advanced ProAdvisor, and 2014 and 2015 “Top 100 ProAdvisor”) as she discusses how she developed a hands-on approach that yields consistent, reliable, accurate construction reporting in QuickBooks.

She’ll discuss how, and why, she developed the AccountingPRO pre-built QuickBooks template. She’ll also share the reasons behind the up-front “design” decisions incorporated into the template, and how to apply those decisions to new, start-up files. (so you can avoid common start-up issues that can cause a variety of problems further down the line).

Additionally she’ll provide insights regarding how, in certain circumstances, company files can be “remodeled” to create more accurate, reliable results throughout the year as well as more useful job-cost and management information.

Learning Objectives

  • “Beginning with the end in mind” (e.g., The current state of accounting records. What outcomes are we looking for? What types of management info and reports does the client want and need? How much of the bookkeeping or accounting can the client learn and handle? etc.)

  • Defining the kind(s) of activities that construction companies may be involved with.

  • Primary QuickBooks Lists – design and organizational secrets to reporting success (e.g., the Chart of Accounts, the Item List and Item Types, the Customer:Job List, Payroll Item List and labor burden allocations, other useful lists).

  • How File Preferences Influence Outcomes.

  • Reports for everyone.

  • Time for a clean start? How to get up and running in record time.
