Course Description

Retention is key to advancing women, and a point of excellence for The Bonadio Group. As reported in the 2022 Accounting MOVE Project report, The Bonadio Group loses half as many women in the transition from senior manager to partner than the average firm. That stellar statistic helps explain why women comprise 37% of its partners, a figure that is consistently rising.

What’s the “secret sauce”? At The Bonadio Group, retention is based on the intersection of individual career goals with emerging firm talent needs. In other words, constant career coaching and big-picture forecasting help ensure that the right people are ready and eager to take on rapidly expanding opportunities. By infusing career growth with flexibility, women can mix and match their personal and professional responsibilities, fostering long-term career success one move at a time.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize why retention is a critical metric for advancing women, especially in the steps immediately before a partnership

  • Evaluate why ongoing career discussions are more productive and strategic than annual reviews

  • Give examples of how to craft “unrefuseable offers” for internal opportunities and describe the strategic value of those opportunities to thwart the temptation for an employee to leave the firm for career growth

  • Identify how to balance flexibility and fairness, especially when handcrafting career paths for each individual

Never one to rest on her laurels, she earned a Diversity & Inclusion Certificate from Cornell University and is taking additional coursework to expand her knowledge. This is in addition to the MBA with a marketing concentration she earned at Georgia State University and a Bachelor of Arts in journalism, public relations, and French from Troy (State) University in Alabama.

Bonnie quite literally wrote the book on online marketing for accounting firms, Take Your Marketing Online: Proven Ways to Grow Your Firm in the Digital Age, at the request of the AICPA. She also contributed a chapter to Bridging the Gap: Strengthening the Connection Between Current and Emerging Leaders and is a regular contributor and quote source for industry-related publications and websites.
