Course Description

This session focuses on what CPAs need to know about blockchain technology, specifically the options and platforms currently exist in the marketplace applicable for business purposes. A deep dive into the functionality of several blockchain networks will be provided, including Ripple, Ethereum, and the Bitcoin blockchain. Additionally, a comprehensive review of applications for blockchain for auditing, taxation, and financial reporting will be covered, with before-and-after comparisons provided for clarity. Wrapping up this session, and incorporating the variety of  possibilities for blockchain, a summarization of changes, and possibilities for financial service professionals will be presented.
 
Learning Objectives:
 
After the conclusion of this session attendees will be able to:


  1. Identify and analyze the components and aspect of different blockchain networks, and assess business cases for these different networks

  2. Be aware of the applications and use cases for both blockchain technology, and processes that can be built on top of this platform

  3. Discuss how to integrate blockchain applications and use cases into both their organizations, and provide recommendations to clients

Sean is an assistant professor at the City University of New York – Lehman College. He serves on the Advisory Board of the Wall Street Blockchain Alliance, where he chairs the Accounting Working Group. Sean sits on the Advisory Board of Gilded and is a strategic advisor to the Central Bank Digital Currency Think Tank. Sean also serves as an Advisor to Crescent City Capital, a cryptoasset investment fund.

Sean is a widely recognized expert in the areas of blockchain and cryptoassets, especially as they connect to accounting and financial services. His thought leadership is sought after by academic and industry organizations, and includes his efforts to develop and teach the first ever courses focusing on blockchain and crypto at Lehman College beginning in 2021.

Sean has also been named one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting, and has been named a past winner of the NJCPA Ovation Award for Innovation. He has also been named a 40 under 40 in the accounting profession from 2017-2021 by CPA Practice Advisor and the NYSSCPA in 2021. Sean was named on the NJBIZ Power 50 in Accounting in 2021 & 2022. He was also awarded the Outstanding Young CPA of the Year Award by the AICPA in 2022.
