Course Description

During this session we will review the characteristics that distinguish each of the generations that represent today's workplace. As we consider the traits that differentiate each generation, we will discuss how these impact their unique communication styles and ultimately, what the impact is on the firms as the leadership strives to integrate all employees into one cohesive unit. We will conclude with practical tips regarding leading, managing and communicating across the generations, given their disparate styles.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the general time span shared by each generation: traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Gen Xers, Millenials

  • Characterize each generation’s stereotypical values and behaviors

  • Based on each generation’s values and behaviors, identify a favored communication ‘style’ within that group

  • Describe strategies for managing multiple generations within a shared workspace, including leveraging differences and building community

Testimonials

"Very informative as to what makes the generations "tick"."

"Fabulous! Really insightful. I have heard a lot about he generational differences but never heard the historical references made. This explains a lot about how the various generations were shaped. It helps me to better understand both as an employee my boss ( a baby boomer) and the junior staff (Gen Y)."

"Great Webinar! Very insightful for learning the reasons why co-workers of different generations have differing definitions of the "proper" work ethic and "proper" communication styles."

"This was, by far, the best webinar I have attended in a while. The content was extremely relevant and I am going to encourage my fellow studio leaders to review the slides and attend this if it is ever offered again."

"Sally Glick was outstanding, she is an effective communicator and well versed on this topic."

"Absolutely outstanding! As a Boomer, Sally really opened my eyes to a number of differences that I was generally aware of and made sense of how to handle them going forward."
