Course Description

Most businesses do a good job of collecting exemption certificates from customers, but is that enough? Does that ensure compliance according to state laws? Not according to the experts. Beyond merely collecting these documents, businesses bear the responsibility of ensuring their validity, keeping them current and well-organized, and making sure they are readily available for audits. This includes demonstrating that the certificate was properly filed at the time of sale. Join DuCharme, McMillen & Associates, Inc. (DMA) and Avalara as we dive into the challenges of selling to exempt customers and provide best practices to ensure compliance.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify process optimization strategies when dealing with exempt customer transactions

  • Determine the economic nexus considerations relevant to exempt customers

  • Recognize methods for managing special exemption scenarios

  • List best practices for addressing unique customer exemptions

She regularly delivers webinars, CPE courses, and training sessions for CPAs, financial application developers, web developers, finance professionals, and businesses of all kinds, on sales tax and business license compliance, how laws might apply to a business, how to avoid creating liability with tax authorities, and how implementing technology and automation is better than relying on human labor/expertise (or lack thereof) in today’s environment.
